The sections you will see

  • Case and donor information — names, sample types and collection dates
  • Marker table — the genetic locations analysed and the values observed for each donor
  • Statistics — the probability or likelihood ratio calculated from those values
  • Conclusion — a plain statement of the finding
  • Signature block — the laboratory personnel responsible for the analysis

Reading the marker table

Each row is one marker; each column is one donor. In a paternity case, the child should show one value matching the mother and one matching the biological father at each marker.

Interpreting the conclusion

An exclusion is definitive. An inclusion is expressed as a probability, typically 99.99% or higher.
