Relationship testing

Paternity DNA Test in Canada

A paternity DNA test compares genetic markers between a child and an alleged father to indicate whether a biological relationship is supported. Kinora Genetics coordinates the whole process in Canada: guidance on who should be tested, identity-verified sample collection, chain-of-custody documentation where required, and secure release of the report produced by an accredited laboratory partner.

Testing is available for personal knowledge or as a professionally collected, documented test for legal and immigration files. Clients in Richmond, Vancouver and across Canada are served from our Richmond collection centre, and international participants can be included through coordinated collection.

Who it is for

Is this the right service for your situation?

  • Parents seeking clarity about a biological relationship for personal understanding
  • Alleged fathers who want a documented result for a family law matter
  • Lawyers and family mediators arranging a professionally collected test for a client file
  • Families with participants in different cities or countries who need coordinated collection
  • Applicants who were asked to evidence a parent-child relationship as part of an immigration file

What to expect

How the process works

  1. Step 01

    Tell us who is available

Use the guided Test Finder or call a coordinator. We confirm which participants are needed and whether you need a personal or documented, legal test.

  2. Step 02

    Choose your collection route

Attend our Richmond centre, arrange coordinated collection in Vancouver or elsewhere in Canada, or use a private home kit where a documented test is not required.

  3. Step 03

    Identity verification and consent

For documented tests, government-issued identification is checked, photographs and signatures are recorded, and guardian consent is obtained for minors.

  4. Step 04

Sealed transfer to a laboratory partner

Samples are sealed, labelled and transferred to a qualified, accredited laboratory partner. Kinora Genetics does not perform analysis.

  5. Step 05

    Report release and explanation

The partner laboratory's report is released to you through the secure portal, and your coordinator explains what it does and does not indicate.

Samples

Sample types that may be considered

Cheek swabs are the standard collection method. Other sample types may be considered case by case; DNA recovery from non-standard samples can never be guaranteed.

Cheek swab (standard)

Painless buccal swabs are the standard sample for paternity testing and the only sample type used for professionally collected legal tests.

Non-standard samples

Items such as hair with roots, a used toothbrush or nail clippings may be considered for personal testing only, subject to case review. Recovery of usable DNA cannot be guaranteed.

Prenatal enquiries

Prenatal paternity enquiries are handled case by case and always require discussion with a coordinator before any collection is arranged.

Full detail on accepted material is in the DNA samples guide, or check a specific item with the sample assessment tool.

Limitations

What this service does not do

  • We do not state or imply that results are guaranteed, or that any organisation must accept a report
  • We do not own or operate a laboratory; all analysis and reporting is performed by accredited laboratory partners
  • We do not provide legal, immigration or medical advice based on a report
  • We do not perform covert testing, and every participant must give informed consent
  • Turnaround times are indicative only and depend on the partner laboratory and sample condition

KINORA GENETICS is a DNA testing and sample collection service operated by Canadian International Business Development Corp. We coordinate testing, professional sample collection and documentation. Laboratory analysis is performed by qualified, accredited laboratory partners; KINORA GENETICS does not own or operate a laboratory.
