Immigration DNA Testing in Canada

Immigration DNA testing is used when an application requires additional evidence of a claimed biological relationship. Kinora Genetics coordinates professionally collected, identity-verified sampling with documented chain of custody, then transfers the sealed samples to an accredited laboratory partner that performs the analysis and issues the report.

We handle cases where participants are in different countries, aligning collection in Richmond or Vancouver with overseas collection so the file stays consistent. Requirements are set by the receiving authority or the lawyer managing the application; we follow the instructions provided and document everything carefully.

Who it is for

Is this the right service for your situation?

  • Applicants asked to provide DNA evidence of a parent-child or sibling relationship
  • Immigration consultants and lawyers arranging testing on behalf of a client
  • Sponsors in Canada whose family members are being collected overseas
  • Families where civil documentation is unavailable, incomplete or has been questioned
  • Cases where a direct parent-child comparison is not possible and kinship testing is being considered

What to expect

How the process works

  1. Step 01

    Share the requirement

Send us the request letter or your representative's instructions. We confirm which participants and relationship comparison are needed.

  2. Step 02

    Case setup and documentation

We open a case reference, prepare consent forms and confirm what identification each participant must present.

  3. Step 03

    Identity-verified collection

Collection is performed by a professional at our Richmond centre, by coordinated appointment in Vancouver and across Canada, or at an overseas collection site we arrange.

  4. Step 04

    Documented chain of custody

Samples are sealed and labelled in the participant's presence, with signatures, photographs and transfer records retained on the file.

  5. Step 05

    Laboratory analysis and reporting

An accredited laboratory partner performs the analysis and issues the report, which we release securely to you and, where you instruct it, to your representative.

Samples

Sample types that may be considered

Cheek swabs are the standard collection method. Other sample types may be considered case by case; DNA recovery from non-standard samples can never be guaranteed.

Cheek swab (required)

Professionally collected buccal swabs are the only sample type used for immigration and other official testing.

No self-collected material

Home kits, toothbrushes, hair and similar items cannot support an official file, because their origin and handling cannot be documented.

Overseas collection

Participants outside Canada are collected by an arranged professional under the same identity-verification and sealing requirements.

Full detail on accepted material is in the DNA samples guide, or check a specific item with the sample assessment tool.

Limitations

What this service does not do

  • We do not promise that any immigration authority, embassy, tribunal or court will accept a report
  • We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any government body
  • We do not provide immigration or legal advice; requirements should be confirmed with your representative or the requesting authority
  • We do not own or operate a laboratory; analysis and reporting are performed by accredited laboratory partners
  • Turnaround estimates depend on collection logistics in each country and on the partner laboratory
