DNA Sample Collection in Canada
Sample collection determines whether a DNA test can be analysed and whether it can support an official file. Kinora Genetics provides professional, identity-verified collection at our Richmond DNA Testing & Collection Centre and coordinates collection appointments in Vancouver, across Canada and internationally.
Every collection follows the same principles: confirm identity, record informed consent, take the sample under controlled conditions, then seal and label it in front of the participant before transfer to an accredited laboratory partner. Where a legal or immigration file is involved, chain of custody is documented at each step.

What to expect
How the process works
- Step 01
Choose the collection route
Professional collection is required for legal and immigration testing. Home kits are available for personal knowledge testing only.
- Step 02
Book an appointment
Reserve a time at our Richmond centre, or ask a coordinator to arrange collection in Vancouver, elsewhere in Canada, or overseas.
- Step 03
Identity check and consent
Photo identification is verified, consent forms are signed, and a guardian consents for any minor.
- Step 04
Collection, sealing and labelling
Cheek swabs are taken, then sealed and labelled in your presence with the case reference and collector's record.
- Step 05
Transfer to a laboratory partner
The sealed package is transferred to a qualified, accredited laboratory partner for analysis. No analysis takes place at our premises.
Samples
Sample types that may be considered
Cheek swabs are the standard collection method. Other sample types may be considered case by case; DNA recovery from non-standard samples can never be guaranteed.
Cheek swab
The standard sample: quick, painless, suitable for adults, children and infants, and the only sample used for documented legal collection.
Home collection kit
Posted to you with swabs, instructions and a return envelope. Suitable for personal knowledge testing only.
Special or non-standard items
Reviewed case by case for personal testing. Recovery of usable DNA depends on the item's condition and cannot be guaranteed.

Limitations
What this service does not do
- Self-collected samples cannot be used for legal, court or immigration purposes
- DNA recovery from non-standard samples is never guaranteed, and a re-collection may be needed
- We collect and coordinate only; all analysis and reporting is performed by accredited laboratory partners
- Samples are collected only from consenting participants, with guardian consent for minors
- Richmond is our only physical location; all other places we list are collection service areas

Laboratory analysis is performed by qualified, accredited laboratory partners; KINORA GENETICS does not own or operate a laboratory.

Where collection takes place
Walk-in and booked collection appointments take place at Unit 410 – 6388 No. 3 Road, Richmond, BC, which is convenient for clients travelling from Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey and across Greater Vancouver. For clients elsewhere in British Columbia, other provinces or abroad, your coordinator arranges a professional collection appointment locally and manages the paperwork centrally.
